Abstrak

Dengan Membunuh Orang Gila, Sapardi muncul sebagai pengarang cerpen. padahal sebelumnya dia hanya menulis puisi. Pengucapan bahasa antologi ini berbeza dari yang menandai cerpen dalam Pengarang Telah Mati, antologi cerpennya yang lebih dulu. Cerpennya bukan “prosa yang puisi” yang memanfaatkan bentuk puisi. Ia memanfaatkan mekanisme pengucapan bahasa puisinya, pengucapan bahasa tanpa pemborosan dan staccato, yang penuh lompatan tanpa kata yang menandai hubungan antara dua unit pengucapan bahasa. Ini dimungkinkan oleh pengalaman puisi dan penguasaan bahasa Sapardi dan oleh pengalamannya bergerak dalam dunia ilmu sastera dan bahasa. Kerana itu dia juga mampu menggunakan kata dan ungkapan yang selama ini dianggap telah mengklise namun di tangannya berubah menjadi sesuatu yang segar dan menyegarkan.

Abstract

With Membunuh Orang Gila, Killing a Mad Man , Sapardi estab­lishes himself as a short story writer; while he was previously known only as a poet. The short stories in this anthology differ from those in Pengarang Telah Mati, The Writer is Dead”, his previous anthology of short stories. They are not “prose in the form of poemsor “prose that resembles poems” that simply make use the poetic form. In Membunuh Orang Gila, Sapardi, on the other hand, makes use the linguistic mechanism he uses to express ideas in his poetry. His lan­guage expression is terse, using few words as possible. And it is stac­cato as well, omitting words usually used to show the (logical) con­nection between units of a linguistic expression. This is made pos­sible by his long history as a poet that also makes him very conscious in using of a language expression. In addition to that, we also have to include as well his long association with the linguistic and literary study as a teaching staff of a university. His command of language and style is not only part of his long experience as a poet, it is also the result of his academic experience as a student of literature and lin­guistics. He can use the language expression so far regarded as being cliches efficiently and refreshing.
